Hello People of the Universe

Mon, 02/12/2018 - 00:41 -- abbeyyh

It is I,
but you probably don’t know me.
Because I am a somebody nobody sees.
Of course you may see
--as we are all capable of doing--
but your eyes glance over me,
as if I’m a tolerable weed growing in the sidewalk.
Or the flat tire, discarded along the road.

All you pay attention to is what you want to see,
blocking out the world around you.
I am the whisper in the wind,
a blade of grass in a sea of billions.
Insignificant, invisible, lonely,
but always there in the background.
An everlasting presence,
an imprint on humanity.

You probably don't know me,
but perhaps you might stop by and say hello.
Just as I have been doing since the beginning.
Now it is time for goodbye,
so others to come will be the hello the universe has long awaited.
