Hello, Old Friend
Hello, old friend,
it’s been awhile.
I haven’t missed you,
and I’ve been in denial.
Been telling myself
it’s okay to smile.
But now you’re back,
and worse than ever.
Forcing me to hide,
shaking with terror.
Afraid to show my face,
scared to make an error.
It got easier to breathe,
but now my lungs ache.
You never give,
you always take.
Thinking I was fine,
was my first mistake.
It’s an uphill battle,
and I’m definitely losing.
Everything was fine-
now it’s all confusing.
To you, my struggle
must seem amusing.
The battle’s over.
Congratulations,
you’ve won.
White flag raised,
I’m done.
Depression- one
Me- none
