Heavy Eyes
Sodden with saddening sights
And drowning in disappointment.
The weight of your eyes
Could not be hefted by a hundred men.
The volume of your thousand tears
Could drown all the fish in the sea.
Your heavy eyes,
Heavy with dead white weight,
Heavy with a fresh winter snow—
Pristine and pure and dreary and dead.
Who would guess you still bleed red
After holding the weight of your gaze?
Drenched in disappointment,
Sodden with half-hearted sorrow,
Your heavy eyes
Could sink nations into the seas.
