Hearts Not Broken

(January 24, 2013)

A lot of things have happened, in my life today.

But I know, if I stand tall, that I will be okay.

Don’t worry, it’s not as if it matters.

But my hearts not broken, it’s just in tatters.

You say that I’m too young, to have lived a life worthwhile.

That all I did was play dumb, all kicked back with a smile.

Fear not, my Earthly peer, ‘cause life alone is dear.

But my hearts not broken, it’s only cracked.

Because of people like you who’ve put on an act.

And for those reasons too, I’ve had you sacked.

But my hearts not broken, it’s only chipped.

Like a cup of Hot Chocolate, it’s gone as it’s sipped.

Folks like you that don’t know what to say,

Should pack your things; just walk away.

Believe me when I say, my heart isn’t broken.

Because it has just began its journey astray.

Like it or not, you have made me this way.

Forgiveness is something that I cannot sway.

But my hearts not broken, it’s only frayed.

As it would’ve remained, if I would have stayed.

As it turns out, it wasn’t whole from the start.

                It was already torn apart.

I was born into a family that was already broken,

and beginning to part.

This poem is about:
My family
