A Heart So Big

Once there was a boy with a heart so big
A heart so willing to give, give and give
A heart so forgiving and filled with joy
A common trait in such a little boy

He met a young girl and gave her his heart
She was so kind, he loved her from the start
But one day, he couldn’t believe his eyes
When she gave him his heart, shrunken in size
“I don’t want this heart anymore” she said,
“A piece broke off and it isn’t as red”
He took it and left, mending as he went
Much of his heart had yet to be spent
But life did go on and his heart remained with only one break and a little pain

The boy met a girl, now not quite as young
The first break still on the tip of his tongue
But cute as she was he gave it to her
For the same thing could not ever occur
But one day there was a knock at his door
Where he found his heart, broken on the floor
She left a note that read: “It broke in two,
Your heart’s not enough, here’s what’s left for you”
But life did go on and his heart remained - broken in two like it was made that way

Time has moved on and the boy was older
A young man now, his heart sat much colder
He met a young woman, heart made of gold
He steered clear at first, avoiding her hold
But he did give in and gave her his heart
With her promise to never be apart
But with time he saw she was only a sham
She shattered his heart for another man’s
But life did go on but no heart remained, kept in a bag for the rest of his days

Once there was a boy with a heart so big
A heart so willing to give, give and give
But this boy’s heart is now broken and stuck
Because a heart can only give so much
