The Heart That is to Be

Location

She may not have time for this

To sit down and spend precious minutes

Reading an excerpt from a life lived long ago

Between the hectic schedule

And traveling in beautiful cities

Living out dreams

That were conjured up in a simpler time

Will she care to remember wide-eyed innocence?

What would a successful woman such as herself

Get out of a teenager's musings?

They aren't sophisticated by any means

The writer was certainly a nobody

These are the words of her origin

Before she became someone

May they serve as a reminder of her humble beginnings

Or maybe

She's desperate for anything different from her reality

Anything to take her back to simplicity

When life could be whatever she made it

It has been tough on this worn woman

She wonders if things could go more wrong

And doubts it

She would give everything to go back

To be that hopeful kid again

To be a young, starry-eyed dreamer

The world was just opening up to her

And she could have done it all

Now she lives with the shadows of regret

Those words on the page symbolize what could have been

She clings to them now, trying to rekindle that fire in her soul once again

May she find the inspiration she yearns for

You see, these women are one and the same

They are who I will become

Two very different paths that my life may take

May the words that come from my heart now

Somehow touch the heart that is to be
