You hear the caged bird sing,
mistaking his call, for a call of peace.

The caged bird sings not for happiness
but because he is alone.
You hear his screams
they bring you sweet dreams,
But it's his cry for help
before he dies.

The caged bird once lived
out in fields of flowers
you watched him fly high
captured his soul for your pride,
But now he begs you
to let him go.

The cage bird holds on
Believing in his future
you sacrificed his freedom for a cage
forced him to live inside his own rage,
But do not worry
his faith is still strong.
