You ask me why I like to write.
The answer isn't always black or white.
A poem is a thought with rhythm and stanzas,
Guaranteed to drive me bananas!
Poetry is music without a tune,
A breath of fresh air, like a warm breeze in June.
It's a cool drink of water when my throat is sore,
An addiction that makes me beg for more.
In a poem, I can speak in rhyme,
A privilege denied to me any other time.
Counting syllables is such a thrill!
Though for some, it seems a bitter pill.
I can make people laugh, or make people cry,
Make them chortle or blissfully sigh...
You ask me why I like to write.
Poetry adds color to the darkness of night.
