Headless Dove

Why don't you listen?

Why don't you hear?

Hear my words

Hear my voice

Voice cracks from strain

Voice calls in silence

Silence from you

Silence in this room

Room painted robin's egg blue

Room without windows

Windows to the outside

Windows to your soul

Soul of tarnished gold

Soul inside the mind

Mind left abandoned

Mind that is empty

Empty like this room

Empty  like your eyes

Eyes that don't see

Eyes of the same robin's egg blue

Blue, but a dull hue

Blue, but mostly gray

Gray like the sky

Gray dove feathers ○

Feathers that don't flutter around us

Feathers from a headless bird

Bird that wasn't fast enough

Bird of prey  moved faster

Faster than my words

Faster than you can blink

Blink away dust motes and charcoal ashes

Blink and miss everything

Everything worth seeing

Everything you once saw

Saw with your robin's egg eyes

Saw before you heard

Heard the wind

Heard the doves

Doves more loyal to the sky

Doves so white they hide the moon

Moon that illuminates this room

Moon shining onto my face

Face of old porcelain

Face aged by sorrow

Sorrow from the state of the world

Sorrow caused by the bird's end

World

End
