Haunted

In my dreams, I see you.

That person, who despite my flaws,

grabs my hand and jumps;

jumps into the blue wild world

smiling and dancing in the streets,

pointing at the stars,

splashing me in the tranquil seas,

plucking a dandelion from a field,

running down endless paths,

feeling the coarse hair of a free stallion,

wandering through hidden forests,

looking deep into my sad brown eyes,

kneeling with a ring in his hand,

kissing me in my ivory gown,

cradling the life we made,

wrapping me in his arms under a full moon,

crying with me over the pain of my past

that had touched no other ear,

knowing that to understand my suffering

is to see a young and confused girl

alone and scared.

Though this poem speaks about a painful past, it also speaks about hope in the future. Like so many others, I have found hope in life to move forward from the painful past. Writing this kind of poetry has really helped me get through everything, and I hope others find this poem encouraging to move ahead from the haunting past. Thank you to all who read this!
