Hardknock Life Kid

You ever thought your world first started as a fairytell?
Dreaming that life existed beyond paradise
Except it didn't...
Just a hardknock life
Poor in pocket and rich in dirt
Parents did dope just to ease the hurt
Knowledge was thin and always struggled.
First generation kid to go to college out the huddle.
The hood was home but never defined.
Keep your head up girl you're doing just fine.
Never let them see you cry or you'll be called weak.
Some days were dark and others bitter sweet
Summers became less fun
From the outside in, staring from the window
Kids playing in the wind
Wish I lived a fairytale spin
Hardknock life kid
I never knew what the grass tasted like or the sand between your toes
It was a hardknock life, I would say so
Memories I didn't want to re-live
Except I wanted to start living
As mornings rose I wish I could rise as far as the sun
That's all I ever did was wish
Wishful thinking became no fun
Hardknock life kid, I would say so
I never dreamed of flying, until I let go
