A Gun or a Thought

What is more deadly
A gun or a thought?
This generation of stupidity
Throwing away everything we were taught
From the bridges that they crossed and the battles that they fought
The love of our ancestors is uncondiontal
See, that love was never bought

A gun provides opportunity
But a thought pulls the trigger
Remember way back when
They use to call us niggers?
We should focus on proving them wrong
Showing them we're bigger
The generation of clowns they say
Let's show them our vigor

See, this society has a way of getting me vexed
They try to make knowledge a failure and make  violence look more complex
I'm watching the news wondering what's going to happen next
The glorified thug life always  leaves me perplexed
I look at the mirror and watch what reflects
Asking myself why is education the thing this generation rejects?
These young girls and boys would rather become suspects
But they forget the works of DuBois, Dr. King, Rosa Parks and Malcolm X
This generation looks at each other and sees no respect
And I just hope one day they realize that violence and education will never intersect

So what's more dangerous
A gun or a thought?
I know the answer
But it leaves me distraught
Killing each other with no fear of getting caught
The road to success is what was never sought
Just remember that time lost can never be bought
They want to keeps us in chains
But they forgot about the freedom of thought
