Growing Voices

Did my clothes grow a voice box and speak for me?
Because my own voice couldn’t be heard over your insecurity
The only word I needed was no
When a child first learns the word no
They wear it like a chain around their heart
On that day I had to find that chain again
But it could not save me from whatever language you were hearing
I remember feeling safe once
Goodbye
“It could never be me”
Hello
“Your memory won’t haunt me"
