Growing Up is a Myth

The thing about growing up

is that it’s just a myth.

A legend created to allow kids to dream

that they can climb their own monolith.

But one day that dream alters to nightmare

the monolith a vast looming stone

As its shadow envelops, terror unfolds

and the child becomes all alone

Climbing is suddenly hopeless

it’s too tall to even try

But the child inside starts screaming

let out your best battle cry

Maybe growing up is a real notion

but it’s meaning is covert

Maybe growing up means giving up

all fear of failure, disappointment, and hurt.
