Growing Up Haikus

Ninth grade: hoodie and

Pair of jeans, every day

Don’t Look At Me Please

Tenth Grade: Decided

I can switch things up sometimes

But never stand out

Eleventh Grade: I

Can wear whatever I want to

Long as they won’t stare

Twelfth Grade: I can wear

A cloak to school every day

And smile as they stare

Not because I want

To be the center of all

The school’s attention

I just happen to

Think that cloaks are amazing

And more fun to wear

Growing up is about

Learning to be whoever

You decide you are

No matter what they’re

Saying when your back is turned

Stand by who you are
