Colossians 3:5 

5 So put to death whatever in your nature belongs to the earth:

sexual immorality, impurity, shameful passion, evil desire,

and greed which is idolatry.

Greed

Hidden wants and wishes will lay dormant for a while.

Somewhere in space and time they’ll knock on your heart.

They will have some influence and with an attractive smile

will take you out to diner to subdue and tear you apart.

These characters were sly already ... before I was born.

Their nature integrated into the depths of my inner being.

Now they are going steady ... with what was forlorn

Seldom now debated in my constant way of fleeing.

Their dominating power strikes many everywhere.

They will feed on self and build houses named “greed”.

Crushing every flower ... in their atmosphere

And drying every well ... to blind the Spirit’s need.
