The Great Divided States of America

Wed, 05/10/2017 - 12:30 -- Saelyda

Freedom of speech as long as everyone agrees.

I’m afraid to voice an opinion and be taken out of phrase.

Your opinion is only important if you make it the same

As those people who call you hateful, fearmongering, the blame.

A country divided by politicians and party,

Thinking they are the ultimate monarchy.

Not caring for the people they were meant to serve.

Only service here is to the job they want to preserve,

Just a couple more terms.

We seem to be the only country absorb by race differences;

Spewing out belligerence and ignorance.

I’m made to feel ashamed for the color of my skin

When I point out the irony I know I won’t win.

19% of highschool graduates are illiterate

How can that even be legitimate?

How can someone graduate without the ability to read?

This is a disservice to the kids who we need

To help society proceed.

Maybe America the Great was a thing of the past,

Maybe wondering how we can improve should continually be asked.

This poem is about:
My country
