Goodnight

How can something be so refreshing,

Yet so draining?

An escape,

Yet a prison?

Monsters under the bed.

Monsters in my head.

They creep into daily interactions

and fully attack in the quiet of the dark.

The tears fall while I fall asleep.

It is both a blessing and a curse.

One step closer to tranquility

One step further from closure.

Sleep finds me

in my most vulnerable state.

Drained by trials

Awakened by fear.

The hardest part is waking up

Knowing nothing's changed.

But in those few moments of fog,

Life seems almost normal.

But time is as constant as the clock it controls.

I sit here waiting

For just a few more moments of peace

One more minute of sleep.
