Gold fish

I never realized

I never thought

I never knew

Until the day I did

The day I grew up

everything changed

The day I realized I grew up was at a lock-in

A group of us where playing cards

One suggested gold fish

I didn't know how to play gold fish

Because I didn't have the time

I was focused on taking care of my friends and siblings

I didn't have a childhood

The day I realized I grew up

Was the day the world got darker

Because the day I realized I grew up

Was the day I realized others hadn't

Not because they weren't mature

But because they didn't have to grow up

They weren't forced to be mature

They were allowed to be kids

I never realized

I never thought

I never knew

Until the day I did

The day I grew up

everything changed

This poem is about:
Me
