The Gods Have Always Been Modern

To watch from above,

Is to spectate the world

To be a god,

Is to have the power to change it.

Yet they do not.

Zeus is a king,

Yet he does not control all.

Hades is death,

Yet he is still alive.

Poseidon is water,

Yet he is still solid.

The gods have always been modern,

Like they have always been ironic.

They would not be different now,

For the world hasn’t changed.

Only a mirage from Apollo’s sun shows,

That the world is the same, but just hidden behind a curtain of light.

Zeus would not be a weatherman.

Poseidon would not be a lifeguard.

Hades would not be a mortician.

Athena would not be an engineer.

Apollo would not be a coachman.

Artemis would not be a hunter.

Hestia would not be a mother.

Aphrodite would not be a makeup artist.

Hephaestus would not be a handyman.

Ares would not be a marine.

Hermes would not be a mailman,

And so on.

And that’s just the way it is.
