Dear God have mercy,
As the soldiers deploy overseas,
Think of the children,
Oh God, please?

Some will come home,
To a grateful wife,
Others will make the selfless sacrifice,
He will lay down his life.

The smell of fear,
Common in combat, reeks,
Countless pray to God,
Numerous tears slide down cheeks.

Courage occupies each heart,
Freedom, is a promise,
Loyalty remains unmeasurable,
Honor equals bliss.

Various people are thankful,
Few forget,
The pain our soldiers endure,
For a life without regret.

Dear God, hear the child's prayer,
Let his father come home,
Do not let a wife,
Live or suffer a life of sorrow alone.
