To The Girl Who Thought Yesterday Was Today

To the girl who thought yesterday was today,
She lowered her gaze,
Her old ways haunting her.
She withdrew her hand,
Her presence in all absences.
She bent her knees,
Her fantasies shattered.

They left her speechless,
Her dreams- meaningless.
They blamed her for the crime he committed,
The promises he made,
And the flowers he planted in her garden.
She took the blame,
Ignited the fire of
Truth and dare
To his name.

The shadows
Lit her soul on fire.
The wind
Lifted her off her feet.
He pulled her to Earth,
To her defeat.

This is to the girl who thought
Yesterday was today:
Everyday is a brand new story,
A brand new battle waiting
To be won with glory.

Today,
She lights the candles at night,
Becomes the wind to her kite,
And a Planet to her Galaxy.
Her dreams- finding flight,
Her gaze- meeting the stars
That once defined her scars.

Today,
Her darkest secrets
Scream at his face
In a taunting embrace,
Leaving him nowhere to hide,
Driving him out of his mind.

Today,
She stands stronger than ever,
Her gaze up,
Hands outstretched,
Knees straight.

This is to the girl who thought
Yesterday was today:
Every day is a brand new story,
A brand new battle waiting
To be won with glory.

Yes, this girl is me…
