Get Your Own Life

Location

"Worthless, good for nothing, immature,

You don’t know what you are doing with your life."

Everyday I hear things like this,

Things meant to bring me down

Things that are supposed to hurt me.

And they do, they hurt me down to the core,

They tear into my heart,

Yet they don’t see the pain

They ignore the quietness that I have become.

They don’t notice me sitting there with my mouth shut

Just taking the attacks like they are normal occurrences

As if I hear them very day, and I do

Everyday, every damn day.

Why is your face like that?

Make me a cake for my next work event!

Do the dishes.

Do the laundry.

Clean the bathrooms.

I need a shirt, find me one.

I need something the wear, give me something.

When is it enough?

When is it okay for me to say NO?

When can I finally stand up for myself and say ENOUGH?

When will they take me seriously?

When will they stop trying to control my life as if I am a puppet?

Hear me, and hear me loud and clear

I AM MY OWN PERSON

I CAN MAKE MY OWN DECISIONS

I CAN CONTROL MY OWN LIFE

IT. IS. MY. LIFE.

GET. YOUR. OWN.

It is not my fault that you screwed up your chances at furthering your education.

It is not my fault that you screwed up your life.

It is not my fault that I am doing something with my life when you are sitting at home.

I will not make the same mistakes that you did.

I AM NOT YOU.

I WILL NEVER BE YOU.

I WILL NEVER COMPARE TO YOU.

I. AM. ME.

GET YOUR OWN DAMN LIFE

AND STOP TRYING TO CONTROL MINE.

I AM DONE WITH THIS, I DON’T WANT TO BE THE PERSON YOU WANT ME TO BE, AND I NEVER WILL BE WHAT YOU WANT ME TO BE.
