A Generation of Hope

My generation

As of right now

We could be called

Children.

And I suppose

That’s what we are

Children of a doomed future.

That’s what the tell us.

They say

There is nothing to be done

Might as well

Enjoy it while you can.

But,

The reality is

We are

Children of a brilliant future.

Not because that is

What we’ve been left by

Past generations,

But because

We have the courage,

Strength,

Knowledge,

And desire

To build a brilliant future.

That’s what inspires me.

My friends who

Organize rallies.

The kids who

Have become

The voices of movements.

The children

Who haven’t given up.

When we’re older,

And have passed

A better world

Onto our own children.,

We will tell them,

“We built this with fire,

And sweat,

And hope,

And now

It is up to you

To continue building it,

With desire,

And stone,

And the knowledge that,

Of everything we’ve left for you,

The most important is

The hope in your own heart.”
