Gauze Gaze

Location

I tear open a gauze packet

Sitting on the stairs, I don't want to make a racket!

I see the deep laceration on her delicate skin

I imagine how much pain she is in and I tremble within.

I clean it, I dress it, I cover it.

I tell her leave it alone now, don't uncover it.

Her big brown eyes stare into mine and she smiles

She kisses my cheek, my smile is miles!

I am her doctor, and her lover.

If only I could have done the same for my brother and mother.

He was shivering in a hospital bed,

Her bones ache and her skin turns red.

I must become a real doctor, I don't want this despair.

I don't want to just stand there and stare.

I'll make you proud mom, and brother.

One day both of you will smile at me like my lover.
