Futures

Location

Every person has a dream,

A goal that becomes their motivation,

But not every dream succeeds,

And those that do are lucky.

Lucky enough to brave the endless monsoons of obstacles;

Lucky enough to keep up with the pace of a high-speed society;

Lucky enough to not falter when the deluge comes crashing down upon them;

Lucky enough to find a job when the country lacks employment;

But, the future is yours, not society’s to dictate.

For every future, there is hope that the next generation will fix the problems of the last--

But alas, the die was already cast!

The vox populi would blame the decisions of the last on the bad state of current affairs,

But it becomes the duty of the current generation to fix the present day,

And now every future is in jeopardy of being discarded;

I hope you can get into college, because otherwise you’re garbage;

I hope you pick a degree that satisfies your future needs;

I hope you don’t take out loans that you’ll regret;

I hope you will find a job that doesn’t make your soul feel empty;

I hope you will make it,

But remember, we all have futures to fulfill.
