Fudge

Some days, the night comes too early

          But others, too late

I wonder why the crickets begin their song

While I am still dancing

At dusk, the critters come

They bite and buzz and light

They force the day to end

"I am alive!" I yell

Do not take my sun away

But, I know, the restless sleep must come

Some days, the night comes too early

          But others, too late

My eyes are burning

My skin is hot

Why can't the moon just come out

The moisture sticks on me and ruins my clothing

I cannot hide from the light

"I am burning!" I scream

Just let me sleep

But, I know, with practice it will come
