I am from Crayons,
from Construction paper and Chocolate Chip Cookies
I am from the the playhouse out back (With slanted, red roof
and trim that I helped paint)
I am from the pecan tree
from the swing attached
whose wide trunk I remember
as I came crashing, recklessly towards it
I'm from fireflies and full-bangs,
from Ferngully and Kim Possible.
I'm from the big-heads
and the big-hearts,
from Chin Up! and Head down!
I'm from the Huge organ blasting harmonious notes
with a red pew, four from the front
and the accepting arms of others, there.
I'm from my carrot top grandma,
screaming if we wouldn’t stay.
From the flight of my grandfather in
the second world war
the door, shut, to my mother, to ward off headache
Sitting on my bed in a ring
stuffed animals I held so dear,
the silky soft ears, listening to me
without passing judgement.
I am from many decisions--
some planned, some on a whim --
All, a part of me.
