They came and took me from my home through rough sea's and distant lands they made me roam but I was free They stood me in the town squire a price tag around my neck is all I would wear but I was free Then to the plantation I would go to work in the fields that was white as snow but I was free They changed my name and was told to give no lip they explained thisto me with the masters whip but I was free I would work here for many years and even with the beating I shed no tears cause I was free Then one day the master of the house came to me and said old man it time to set you free I laughed and looked him straight in the eye then I gave him this reply You think I'm free because you say this to be I never gave you that power you see and a strong mind is something you can never beat you see that's why I was always free!
