Freedom

You ask me to tell what I can’t live without If taken literally this isn’t hard to figure out I need food, water, a roof for my head Air and sleep or else I’d be dead But clearly this is not what you ask So diligently I'll tend to this task Life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness O Thomas Jefferson, I acquiesce The basic freedoms that every man needs Are more important to me than to eat, drink and breathe Because without this there’d be no purpose Without liberty air is worthless If I can’t speak my mind and must hold my tongue I'll forget about the air that fills my lungs If I must lay my head on my pillow knowing that Any dreams I dream must be kept under my hat And not spoken or else the law is broken Then I would rather never be woken This is a land where I am free, my voice is heard and I can be me Here I can express myself like the best of poets do If this were a lie I wouldn’t want food, water, or air. Would you?
