Fred’s Poem

Every spring a new flower blooms in remembrance of the previous year.

After the months spent bundled in heavy coats and confined inside, you can let down the barricades and breathe the fresh air.

It’s no mystery the summer will arrive.

We might doubt its timing and we might question its appearance but we know it will come.

As we trudge through the deep snow we think of those moments we let slip away in the sun.

We remember the days we drove with the windows down and the music loud.

We remember the taste of the cold ice cream that brought so much joy.

We forever hold on to those memories as we fight our way through the battles we face.

We cherish the smiles summer brought us when we cover our faces to meet the icy air.

You are summer.

When the times are rough and the nights get dark we remember the moments you gave us.

We remember the days you let us stay up late to watch your favorite movies.

We remember our first introduction to good music, thanks to you it forever plays.

The everlasting tune is the new soundtrack of to our life, our breaths matching pitch and our hearts beating to the tempo you gave us.

We remember the sweet treats that lined our childhood.

We remember the traditions you created and we remember the plans we made for the future.

As the nights get colder and the days get darker we remember.

You’re light shines in our lives reminding us of the goodness in the world.

Everyday teaching us new things, and everyday giving us new memories for the future.

The seasons will pass

and the summer will end

but as the leaves change and the snow falls

we can remember the good days.

The days filled with a brightness you gave us unable to be compared.

The days made memorable because of you.
