Freckles

Curse freckles,

and the way they covered the face of a man

that was my happiness, my pain

my love, my loss

and the only source of Christmas spirit

that I have ever had.

Curse freckles

and the way they were hidden beneath his hair

that whipped in the cool ocean breeze,

that gave me fire,

what I wished I was, a confident girl,

what I am today.
