Forged

Smoldering, burning, turning

Take it out start hammering, shaping and cooling

Put it back to burn some more, leave a crack open in the door

Heat it till it glows bright yellow take it out and leave it for the temperature to mellow

Do it over and over, making it stronger each time

You only stop when you feel it in its prime

That's when you take it and put it in the oil

Harden it, make the liquid boil

Tools are made like this, but so are people

This process can be lethal

But those who survive come out tougher

Stronger than the others

Than the ones who are made all the same

Who are made without the flame

Most of the people in the world

Into the past uniqueness was hurled

I returned from the fires not long ago

During my trials I took many a blow

Sitting in the flame for far too long

I grabbed myself from the forge with my own tong

I picked myself up

Poured myself out the cup

Out of the crucible, I prayed I was still usable

But I came out stronger

I became harder

I feel a little bit smarter

More wise about life

Made into the strong knife

When I fell I was almost engorged

I came out forged

Smoldering, burning, turning

Take it out start hammering, shaping and cooling

Put it back to burn some more, leave a crack open in the door

Heat it till it glows bright yellow take it out and leave it for the temperature to mellow

Do it over and over, making it stronger each time

You only stop when you feel it in its prime
