Flowers

Hello, I don’t think we’ve met yet
I’m Rose!
I was but a bud yesterday
When you came to weed
The garden plot
where I was once a seed
But I’m grown now!
And I can see you,

Your dirt stained gloves
And your ripped blue jeans
That you’ve tried to fix
But they tear at the seam
And I see you look at me
Oh my god do flowers pee?

But you sit anyway
And I stand straight
Cuz I gotta look good if you ask me on a date
And you do, and I’m like duh
But there’ just one problem...

You’re a great person
with a life ahead
And I’m just a flower
Growing next to your shed
But you know what?

Love is everywhere
In the dirt, in the stars, it drifts through the air
It fills our lungs
It whips through our hair

Wait, I don’t have hair.

ANYWAY

You take a seat
On the cold concrete
And say you have some news

Of course I’m down
I’m rooted to the ground
But maybe we’re going on a cruise!

You say you’re moving away,
And Michigan doesn’t grow flowers
You’re leaving when I bloom, in May
Thanks to those damn April showers.

But I understand, it’s okay,
I’ll stay here and count the hours
That I have to convince to stay
Before my petals go sour.

You’re off on a great adventure
With only success in sight,
With a hundred other flowers who make me cower
But try with all your might

Try to never forget me
In my painted pot by the shed:
My yellow leaves
That are a bit diseased
My dirty broken roots
That grow off the shoot
My faded pink petals
That have seen better days

But for the moment you’re here
And I see you
And you are a flower with me.
