Float Away

Location

There was a moment alone

And she took advantage

She ran away from home

To go sit at the sea's edge

It was February

And snow replaced the foam

She buried the burdens she carried

And all the skills she'd honed.

The wooden dock swayed

And she peeled the gray paint

She dropped pieces in the sea

And watched them float away

Even though it was February

And snow replaced the foam

She took off her coat

And watched it float away

She shivered and her teeth clattered

And forgot about the foam

She took off her shoes

And watched them float away

Even though it was February

And she had forgotten about the foam

She jumped in

And no one watched her float away
