A Flawless Poem in a Flawed Poem

Location

How does it happen?

That moment when you first realize a flaw?

I thought: So many people hate themselves.

Is it because that person you really like pointed it out?

I thought: They should work with what they have.

Is it because you don’t look exactly like that model?

I thought: People don’t realize that the media is fake.

Or is it inevitable?

I spoke: I promise, I will never hate my body like them.

Usually, I never break promises

But this one was just too hard to keep

Until…

I thought: I want to love other people.

I was being held back

And I didn’t know why.

I spoke: You can’t love other people,

unless you love yourself.

It took me years

But I still wonder:

            How does it happen?

That moment when you first realize that you’re flawless?
