Five Hundred-Seventeen

I speak the truth, but I am
always wrong.
Even when I'm right, still, I am wrong.
My heart aches and I am wild with
grief and agony.
But no one must see this.
In the morning, the pain and the cuts
will be hidden beneath
smiles and long sleeves.
This is the free-est form of oppression.
