Fish in The Sky

Double-check the mirror

for my mother's eyes

(two bruised plums)

I'm still afraid

to go into the kitchen

(It's late and the shadows

move like cockroaches)

So I haven't served our

country or been to war

(but I've seen it, heard it

in my own home)

and yet

it took me twenty years

twenty years

(to notice the moonlight)

This poem is about:
Me
