First Words

I’m looking at the baby blanket

I slept with. A teddy trinket

That I always named as mine

Peeking outside the window

At the playground

In the park below

A child’s innocence—

And happiness

Has never been so divine

Looking around

Sesame Street dabbed on the walls

Cute and clever, I remembered

For Elmo proved that babies were smart too

After that, I learned just fine
