Finding Myself in Losing You

I seek truth in your eyes,
find lies I never knew existed
and wonder
how stained is your soul?
I wish to discover purity
caged within you,
to dig deep until I can uncover
the purpose of deception.
.
Sing to me,
voice full of cracks and heartbreak:
"I never meant to hurt you."
But how can I trust your words
when your testimony has been flawed
since the moment your lips
became an echoing canyon?
I placed honesty in your bones
and hoped you could bloom...
.
I always stopped short of leaving --
couldn't see my future
without the sound of your voice,
praying that one day you would see
.
I tried so hard for you.
I always tried so hard for you.
.
I finally pulled myself away,
and the next time you reached for my hand
it wasn't there to grab.
I am struggling to fly on my own,
but I will still soar above your treachery.
.
I do not belong to you,
my soul no longer bleeds
and I have found that I
no longer wonder
about the state of yours.
.
Nevertheless,
I hope you break free.
