Finding a Light in the Dark

You wake up

Another day

Another struggle

You force yourself to exercise

You force yourself not to eat

You feel in control of something

Finally

As if being skinny

Equals being happy

As if being skinny

Equals no more depression

As if being skinny

Equals no more jealousy

As if being skinny

Equals no more self hate

As if being skinny

Equals self worth

Your friends ask if you have eaten

You lie

Your mom asks if you are ok

You lie

But then it gets bad

The depression isn’t getting better

You go to your family and ask for help

You realize all the love around you

And ask, is it worth it?

Why are you hurting the ones you love?

Why are you hurting those who love you?

Why are you hurting yourself?

Hope is there

There is light at the end of the tunnel

That light is love

You realize

Self care and self love

Equals progress

You can get through this

You realize people don’t love you because of how you look

You are more than your physical appearance

You are light, love, joy

You are your smile, sense of humor, intelligence

You are a loved sister, daughter, and friend

You are strong enough to get through this

You join a support group

You are not alone

You are not the only one

The world is yours to conquer

Life is awesome

You won’t let your disorder stop you from enjoying your life

Your precious life
