The voice that creeps from my pencil, that leaps from my keyboard, that spills from my pen

Is the voice that struggles a fight from within

Fighting to be heard. Fighting to be heard.

From an infant with a curdling cry for caretakers to pay attention

The same voice takes a more mature form, sometimes still difficult in terms of comprehension

Fighting to be heard. Fighting to be heard.

The voice has interacted with many people over the years, family to friends as well

But I write not for their enjoyment, but because this very voice has a story to tell

Fighting to be heard. Fighting to be heard.

This voice is the reincarnation of the struggle of a nation –

With oppression down their throats, it has an obligation.

To fight to be heard. To fight to be heard.

This voice is the sign of a religion and a reflection of that decision

The enemy of oppression, the example of expression

Fighting to be heard. Fighting to be heard.

This voice has the strength of a gender that’s trying to catch up

To proving that we are important and tough

Fighting to be heard. Fighting to be heard.

I write for this voice and this voice writes for me

To all who can hear, can read, can see.

We will fight to be heard.
