Fear of Loss

Maybe what we fear most is not failure

but the idea of what could be lost.

We can wait with open palms,

but purpose may dodge our digits.

We can wait with thirsty mouths,

but the rain may never fall.

We fear the day purpose will find us

but our cracked hands have long lost faith.

We fear the day the rain will fall

but we have gained comfort from four walls.

We fear the day that death will visit

but we have not fulfilled our purpose.
