A Family is Not a Business

A family is not a business

Dinner tables cannot be confused with conference tables

And nowadays, that pyramid scheme we call “friend-making”

Means nothing if it doesn’t help you get ahead in the world.

Our sons and daughters are not employees

in which we rule over.

Affection cannot be substituted

by a salary.

A den is not a boardroom,

nor is a playroom considered office space,

and we should not be threatened to be fired

for not cleaning the dishes or taking out the trash.

Booboos can’t be treated with Workman’s comp,

because bandages are a sign of “inadequacy.”

And a pink-slip cannot appoint you to sit in the corner

and think about what you’ve done.

The sandbox isnt a cubical

for mudpies to be made on an assembly line

along with your contract

called “birth records.”

In the words of Jack Black,

“The world is run by the man, He’s everywhere.”

And in response,

we must stick it to the man.

Contrary to what we’ve been told:

Success is not measured in the currency you acquire

but rather in the smiles and self satisfaction

you get when you do what you do best.

Although I’ve been raised under certain values

that make me a decent human being

I REFUSE to be raised under guidelines

that state how we should be working in this black-tie white-collar job we call LIVING.
