A Family of Friends

Sun, 04/10/2016 - 21:48 -- kaykait

If I say I can't live without just one thing,

I feel like I’m not being totally honest here.

Because this “thing” is actually a group of people;

People who have been with me year after year.

These sidekicks have been a second family,

Always on the lookout for me with their lens.

They have made me believe in myself,

And the idea that they can be called my “friends.”

Whenever I’m around these companions,

I feel comfortable knowing they’ll always be there.

During times when we share our secrets,

Or have fun playing Truth or Dare.

Moments like these,

I’ll always treasure in my heart.

Knowing that the distance between us,

Can never tear our bond apart.

Whenever I find myself engulfed in darkness,

I cannot help but stumble and fall.

Each time I fall, my friends are there to catch me;

They’ve sensed my weakness and have heard my call.

Sometimes I feel stripped of my self-worth,

Feeling a need for love and emotionally deprived.

Yet, these people are the ones that keep me going,

They are the reason why I still find myself alive.

The world is such a vast place,

And I’m just another person living in it.

However, my pals have brought me out,

To a place where I will always be lit.

My friends are my rock solid foundation,

And are the beginning to my ends.

They are the true, straight pathway,

That I can keep to whenever my life bends.
