Faking

2 Corinthians 9:7

So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

Faking

Oh! Is there an art to giving?

Is it an issue of the heart?

Or is it supposedly unnoticed

By the Spirit in the inner man?

Is it supernatural and a

Exposition of the new nature

That is mostly overlooked

Because the flesh really can’t

Is very possible somehow

That we don’t know how to give

Because of what we receive

Is so oft taken for granted?

Is that why giving has overtones

And loses its true effect

Because of the reasoning behind

Is very much deeply slanted

‘Give me Life or Liberty’

Seems more a form of taking

Is that what depravity does to us

“The purity of giving” faking

Are gifts then fulfilling righteousness?

Are they to please our own desire?

In the place where wants and wishes roam

Where conscience is seared by fire.
