Since having long hair being black and being tall stands out

Thats how I obtained attention from people

Was I happy  then? No

Were others? yes, my family prasied me for my looks, I was put in pagents since I could walk but my class mates picked on me asking me if my hair was fake. I had thick natural hair something most black girls arent allowed to have "apparently"

My hair wasn't controllable. I often didn't care so I wore it loose.

That was my mistake, that drew too much attention from other black girls whoose hair was shorter.

I was called gorilla by the boys and fake by the girls

I HATED middle school

Then I got my hair straightened...permanently

Adults loved it ..and so did my class mates with a few who insisted I was fake

Years passed, to be exact 6 years have passed

I cut off all my hair. I started over

Since then no ones looks at me

Boys, adults, even other girls...

No one looks at me the same

My hair defines me.

I love my  short kinky hair, its back to it original natural state of not being controlled or heated to  be straightened.

But looking people in the eyes these days are getting harder.
