Faith Like a Child

She wraps her tiny hand around my thumb
as tears run down my face.
Her green eyes ask so many questions
that I just can't answer.
Not now.

She
climbs
in
to
my
lap
her tongue not yet able to form words
I stroke her hair
as she lays against me

Innocent.

My mind wanders,
thinking about all she has ahead of her.
Boys to fill or break her heart
friends to heal or stab her.

Pain.

The tears
keep
falling
as I wonder who she will become
A Kindhearted girl,
or a heart breaking Woman?

I pray.

Lord,
protect her as she grows,
guard her Heart
and make her strong.
Don't let her fall.
Like me.
Her glowing eyes hold no fear
as she listens to me whisper
She knows His Presence
and feels his Love.
Her Innocence comforts me
and I know that He will guide her
no matter what life brings her way.
As long as she keeps Faith,
like a Child:

Unquestioned.

I always wonder what a child will be like in their future, what trials they will face, and how they will overcome them. I know that for me, faith has always been a strong foundation, and I always hope that He will influence their lives like He has influenced mine.
