Everything's Good

Location

We sound alike

we really do.

Your voice flows through mine --

salty and strong.

Well, you spit fire, my dear.

And your words are course and calloused.

Flaking skin and scabs,

you've been through a lot.

We drove that toy car together.

Your feet shuffling under the wheels,

and my head hanging out of the window,

your legs grew strong that way.

Did you know that you knew how to fly?

You taught me to fly, too.

You're strong, my dear.

Salty and strong.

And you don't like to hug

so your arms will go limp.

Dangling like rubber bands.

There have been a few times when you played with my hair --

like that time when our lives fell apart…

remember?

When you fed me strawberries

dipped in sugar.

And every time you had to cry,

you did it in your elbow.

The world's got a lot it wants to do with you,

my dear.

And you'll call me silly for braiding my words

together like this.

So I'll tell you I love you,

and everything's good.
