Everything changes

There are no tears in her eyes as she plays with her toys.

Her father and grandmother are holding onto each other's hands,

Sometimes stealing glances at the young girl.

The one-year-old thinks of nothing, her piggy tails swinging to and for.

Donde esta Mami?,she wonders, sucking on her thumb.

"Papi, donde esta Mami?"

What would you say? How could you tell your young daughter

That her mother had cancer of the blood?

That Mami wasn't coming back?

The girl feels it though; when her aunt tries to fix

the piggy tails that her Mami made, the girl wails and says

"Deja mis chongos!"

How do I know this?

Simple; I was the young girl.
